Sometimes, a volunteer comes along who is so easy to thank that the accolades just write themselves. Adam Kain is one of those volunteers. Adam was first introduced to The Center through the Best Buddies program while he was in college. After the demands of school were behind him, he found himself with some extra time and decided to see if The Center could use any help. When he reached out in December 2017, we were more than happy to welcome him back!
Adam is always ready to contribute where he is most needed, assisting with everything from stuffing envelopes to facilitating some of the most high-energy Bingo games we’ve seen. Adam is in his element, however, when helping with some of the activities that keep The Center fun for our clients. Adam’s regular gig is a Friday movie night, where he opens “The Ranch” snack kiosk in the lobby of Cullen Residence Hall, then just spends time talking, laughing, and enjoying a film with our clients. For a young person to donate his Friday nights is no small thing, but Adam looks forward to it every week.
“I just like being here,” he says. “The time flies by…it never feels like work.”
Adam says that his favorite aspect of The Center is how apparent it is that the clients and staff all genuinely care for one another, something he is happy to be a part of if “only” for a few hours each week. Those “few hours” mean the world to our clients and our organization. A big thank you to Adam for being an extraordinary volunteer!
